Tate Shade Memorial Bull Bash

The Tate Shade Memorial Bull Bash was created in loving memory of Tate Shade, who tragically passed away on September 7, 2002, at the age of 19. Tate was deeply passionate about his family, his community, and youth agriculture. He proudly participated in the Marion County Jr. Fair for 10 years and was an avid bull rider, embracing the western way of life with heart and dedication.

Following his passing, his parents —Kim and Brenda Shade, along with siblings, Kami Griffith, Kindsey Redd, and Ryan Shade—established the Tate Shade Memorial Fund as a way to honor his life in a lasting and meaningful way. What began as a tribute has become a tradition rooted in love, remembrance, and community.

Each year, the Tate Shade Memorial Bull Bash is held with the support of family and friends, raising funds that are given back to the Marion County Jr. Fair to support youth exhibitors and showmanship awards. These awards recognize the hard work, dedication, and sportsmanship of local youth—continuing Tate’s legacy in the arena he loved.

Today, the Bull Bash stands as a heartfelt community tradition that brings people together in celebration and remembrance, while investing in the next generation of agricultural youth. More than 300 students from the Hannibal, Marion County, Monroe City, and Lewis County C-1 school districts participate in the Marion County Jr. Fair each year, and the support from this event helps ensure their efforts are recognized and encouraged.
